Why We’re Expanding Better Beyond Affirmations
Jan 2, 2026
When we first created Better, our focus was clear: help people build a kinder inner voice through affirmations.
Affirmations remain powerful tools for reshaping mindset, increasing self-belief, and cultivating calm — and they still sit at the heart of everything we do.
But as Better has grown, so has our understanding of what people need to feel truly supported in their mental and emotional wellbeing. That insight led us to an important evolution: expanding Better into journalling.
This change isn’t a pivot away from affirmations. It’s a natural extension of them.
Why We Expanded Into Journalling
Affirmations help shape how you speak to yourself.
Journalling helps you understand why you feel the way you do.
Over time, we noticed something important: users who practiced affirmations consistently often wanted more space for reflection. They wanted to explore their thoughts, process emotions, and build awareness — not just repeat positive statements.
Mental resilience isn’t built from positivity alone. It’s built from awareness, reflection, and intention.
Journalling offers that depth.
By introducing journalling features, we can now support both sides of growth:
The forward-looking mindset of affirmations
The inward awareness that comes from reflection
Together, they create something stronger than either practice alone.
The Power of Synergy: Affirmations and Journalling Together
Affirmations and journalling work best when they reinforce each other.
An affirmation might say:
“I trust myself to handle challenges.”
Journalling lets you explore:
“What felt challenging today, and how did I respond?”
Gratitude practices ground affirmations in real experiences.
Reflection questions turn abstract intentions into concrete insights.
Free-form journalling creates space for honesty — even on days that feel messy or unclear.
This synergy helps build true mental resilience: not avoiding difficult thoughts, but meeting them with compassion and clarity.
What’s New in Better
With this expansion, Better now includes journalling features designed to feel as simple and supportive as our affirmation practice:
Setting intentions to consciously shape your day
Practicing gratitude to anchor positive awareness
Reflection questions to guide deeper insight
Free-form journalling for unstructured self-expression
All of these features are optional and flexible. There’s no pressure to write perfectly or consistently — only an invitation to check in with yourself.
What’s Happening to Affirmations?
Nothing is changing.
Affirmations remain a core pillar of Better and will continue to be a central focus of the app. We are committed to refining, expanding, and improving the affirmation experience — from themes and daily practices to how affirmations fit into real life.
Journalling doesn’t replace affirmations. It supports them.
Better is still, and will always be, deeply rooted in positive self-talk, intentional thinking, and building a healthier relationship with yourself.
Our Journey Forward
Better exists to help people become more mentally resilient — not through perfection or constant positivity, but through presence, reflection, and self-kindness.
This expansion reflects our belief that real growth happens when encouragement meets understanding.
Affirmations help you move forward.
Journalling helps you understand where you are.
Together, they help you live better — one thought, one moment, one reflection at a time.
